motown records
Motown was one of the most influential independent record companies in American history. It had more than ninety number one pop hits with black artists in a time that black artists were not equal in America. Founded on Jan. 12, 1959, Motown quickly became another Detroit factory; where the Big Three produced automobiles, Motown assembled the soul and pop classics that changed America and has impacted the sound of music today. The record label industry was transformed forever and Motown paved the way for the numerous other record labels that arose in inspiration during the 1960’s. The record company changed not just America but the world and its view on American society. It went on to influence everyone in a time of racial integration between blacks and whites.
