Music is one of my biggest inspirations. I wanted to chose a topic involving music because it is what I am interested in, and I think that it is important to learn about music's history. I knew that if I found a topic that I liked I would want to do a good job with it. When my teacher suggested Motown I immediately took an interest.
For my research I began looking up facts online about Berry Gordy and his background. I was able to find a couple of websites very useful. I also went to the local library and picked up some books about Motown. I found all of the pictures, primary documents, and interviews online. Youtube was also very helpful. I was able to add several videos to my project and they helped give a better understanding of my topic.
After researching I was deciding on whether to make a documentary or a website. I chose to make a website because I wanted to try something different, and it was also very fitting for my topic. I was able to show my creativity and there was so many things the website let me do with this project.
Motown Records was a turning point in music history. It created an impact on popular music and social structure. Blacks and whites had differences but the one thing that they both shared was the love of Motown music. Berry Gordy produced music that appealed to all people, regardless of the color of their skin. Motown associated music and the right of black communities to social equality.
